Richard Sherman 25

My career as a designer came after living in West Africa and then Mexico for many years. My designs are a mix of West African and Mexican influence, but with a Western take, and it’s my goal to connect cultures through jewelry. Jewelry often connects our inner thoughts and feelings to the story we tell to the rest of the world. I want to help women tell their story through style.

Scarves are a very versatile accessory which can be worn with all combinations of your fashion closet. They can go from day to night with a change in how they are tied or where they are worn. A Batik scarf adds a touch of color and depth which is sure to complete your look. Our vision: adding the beauty of Batik fabric to your everyday life.

Growing up in Indonesia, I remembered that every year at school we were asked to wear traditional Indonesian dresses to commemorate our national culture day, and my mom made me wear batik combined with a traditional blouse-dress (kebaya). For the Indonesian, Batik is considered a formal attire that you wear to weddings, formal events, graduations, etc. While I didn't think much of its formality and cultural symbolism growing up, but as I moved away and made Seattle my new home, I grew to love the fabrik of Batik and what it commemorates.

Born and raised in Minnesota, Moorhead was educated in Seattle and London under designers for Vivienne Westwood, Abercrombie and Fitch, Union Bay and Vogue Patterns. Moorhead lived in Seattle and worked at Nordstrom prior to founding Gina Marie.

Gina Moorhead honed that trait peculiar to folks born of extreme weather conditions, fog and rain to commit themselves, to push forward and see their passions realized. Those in her world know her by her smile, infectious liveliness and passion that translates to her work. Gina Marie designs reflect her spirit- modern, beautiful, independent, bright and Nordic- a mirror of the life she lives.

The House of Gina Marie’s Fall 2015 collection "Como Park" was cultivated by a new address in St. Paul, Minnesota, a head full of daydreams, a nose deep in a Grace Kelly page-turner and Ella Fitzgerald on repeat. On the back of a napkin at our kitchen table, we started sketching. We drank coffee, listened, observed, considered, polished and played with hemlines, androgyny and volume. We chose classic style lines for tops and dresses like the V neck, boatneck and button up collar. We stayed true to natural fabrication, focused on wearability, respected our design aesthetic and fearlessly tailored what dreams are made of.

Karen Ashley Fashion

Karen Ashley Langley a local fashion designer in the greater Tacoma/Seattle area. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude, with my Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design and spoke as valedictorian, from the International Academy of Design and Technology (now Sanford-Brown College). Originally, I began my design career in costume design and sportswear, crafting beautiful, individualized figure skating costumes for competitive skaters for over 10 years. Earning my degree in Fashion Design has allowed me to hone my craft and love of all things beautiful and feminine, while acquiring the tools for which to create the KAREN ASHLEY line, with the utmost emphasis on quality and excellence.

The KAREN ASHLEY line is a celebration of a woman’s femininity, elegance, beauty, strength; and of course, embracing fashion. Not wanting to go the route of fast fashion, my design aesthetic is to incorporate a thoughtful nod toward elements of trend; with timeless, classic, flawless, fashion; while always employing the use of design elements and principles, to provide cohesion. Using the best materials and construction as possible, I love to explore the balance of solids with patterns, or the contrast of using straighter geometric lines with more softer and curvilinear lines. I strive to make each piece unique and special, sometimes through manipulation of the textile, such as a ruffled collar; or by embellishing details, such as a beaded fringe neckline, or jeweled belt.

The Karen Ashley customer, age 25 – 49, is focused and confident, with discretionary income to make quality choices in wardrobe selection; ethnically diverse, technologically savvy, globally minded and environmentally conscious. She often needs looks that can easily transition from day to evening; serious about her career, college educated and moving along the corporate ladder, not wanting to forsake her femininity for stuffy suits or frilly frocks. Confident about her body, she allows the fluid lines of her clothes to accentuate her curves, and fitted silhouettes to provide interest. Civic minded, her interests include theater, arts, museums, galleries, and fashion.

House of Halm

The design esthetic for the House of Halm focuses on garments that women would feel comfortable and confident in wearing from day to night, night to gym. Each piece can be intermixed with basics that customers may already have in their wardrobe. In essence, take the blazer off and you’re (leggings and bra are) ready for yoga class. Then, go from yoga to happy hour. House of Halm aims to be versatile, innovative and maintain a grade of quality expected to match luxury designer labels.

What ties the collection together is the use of exposed zippers, trims and shapes as well as color combinations to focus on mixing black and white with other colors.

Attention to detail, fit, and revamping older trends by adding a twist (i.e. using the high-low hem trend in a different silhouette not yet used/popularized before) are the things that make this collection special.

House of Halm's favorite designers include Ann Demeulemeester, Veronica Etro, Alexander Wang, Stella McCartney. I am also inspired by minimalism and modern architecture.

Being in nature, feeling it’s sweet enchantment, is a daily practice for me. The Japanese call it Shinrin-yoku, or the medicine of being in the forest. It’s my intention that all my pieces are created sustainably and bring the strong and vibrant medicine of the Earth to the people and homes they grace. They are talismans, working to reconnect us to nature’s embrace.

BOULEVARD DE MAGENTA

Details, craftsmanship, experimentation and history: these values are the driving force behind Wendy’s multimedia approach to apparel design. Her experience as artist, interior designer, business owner and (somewhat) reformed punk-rocker combine to influence the point-of-view behind the clothing and accessories that are Magenta by Wendy Ohlendorf.

A collector at heart, Wendy’s love of fashion history and vintage clothing instilled in her the importance of detail and craftsmanship. While attending the Art Institute of Tampa she focused on architecture, earning a degree in Interior Design, which illustrated the importance of quality workmanship in order to create the finest works possible. Continually striving to top her best has carried over into all methods of expression including apparel design.

In the mid-90s, Wendy opened a shop in Portland featuring over 20 local designers. It was there, in the back workroom, that her love for apparel design grew and became the art form she now focuses on.

Wendy’s design philosophy, whether it be for clothing, sculpture, painting, or interior design, is ethical and historical. Her apparel showcases vintage textiles, which in addition to being gorgeous, also have narrative appeal. Fabrics carry with them old stories and experiences and are just waiting to be reinvented in ways that enchant the wearer to follow their hearts to new adventures.

A self-taught fashion designer; Wendy has utilized her love of vintage apparel, her architectural and fine art background to create a unique collection. One that expresses a combination of modern chic, vintage romanticism, and a futuristic edge into a style all her own.

Wendy invites you to her flagship studio and store, Boulevard de Magenta, so you too can experience her signature process and discover the magic in your style.
